After many years went by where I wished I had taken the time to learn
fly fishing, my oldest son (13) and I finally made it happen on a trip
to Mammoth last summer We found Nicholas through one of the local
outfitters and met him early one morning to start our education and
adventure. It took about 20 seconds to realize that we were learning
from a very skilled professional and this was going to be a great time.
The real testament to our experience is through my son who talks about
that day very often. He caught 8 trout in his first 2 hours (ok, I had
5) and had a smile ear to ear the whole time. We both felt we learned a
great skill and art through Nicholas and he was just so enjoyable to be
with. Bottom line is don't wait, get your son or yourself out fly
fishing with Nicholas. You won't be disappointed.

"I recently convinced two hesitant friends to try fly fishing for the first time. I decided Crowley Lake could provide a great experience, but needed a guide who could not only find the fish, but take the time to work with my buddies on casting and landing trout, so they would have a positive first experience with the sport of fly fishing.
Our guide, Nick Lawton, delivered on both counts. We all caught fish, my friends learned how to cast, enjoyed landing Crowley Bows and Browns, and we even got a great picture of me and my excited friend landing double 20" Rainbows. Nice picture and memory for a lifetime. One of my buddies went out and bought fly rod and went fly fishing the following week. Many thanks to Nick Lawton for helping hook not only big Crowley trout, but getting my friends excited about fly fishing in the Eastern Sierra's.

“My Son and I keep coming back because Nick's knowledge, patience and humor makes it easy to relax and enjoy the day. We always come home thrilled with the lessons learned and the special moments captured on the end of our fishing lines."

A co-worker and I scheduled a trip with Nick in May 2007. He found the perfect spot on the East Walker River for us beginning fly fishers to catch plenty of fish. We caught approximately 20 Rainbows and Browns in the 3 to 5 pound range all before noon. We are definitely going to schedule another trip!!! Thanks Nick!!!

My wife and I have had the pleasure of learning to fly fish with Nick on two very successful occasions. Nick has tremendous patience and never got upset as we initially tangled up everything and whipped off fly's.
He was completely up on where the fish were biting and what fly's were best and the correct depth or set-up.
He was very prompt in meeting us, has an excellent boat to fish from and was a true and very polite professional.
I give my strongest recommendation to Nick as an excellent guide for both lakes and streams in the Mammoth Lakes/ Crowley/ Owens areas.
My wife and I are now fairly accomplished as fly fishing anglers yet still plan to take at least two trips a year with Nick to improve our skills.
Respectfully yours,
Allan and Flo Sheridan

I spent a couple of days fishing in the Sierra's last week and had a great time. I was fishing with my good friend Carl who is a beginner and since I was tired of untying his wind knots all day, we got a guide for the second day and fished the Upper Owens. Nick Lawton from 3D Guide Services is an outstanding professional. Most of the flies we used were of his own making so I don't know what to call them but what I do know is that they all worked well - very well. I swear Nick knew the address of every single fish in that section of the Upper Owens. As long as I put his flies where he told me, I was into fish - including a 20 inch native brown. I stopped counting at about 20 - Some DFG Stocker but plenty of wild browns too. Carl did very well too. He caught more fish on this particular morning that he had in the last 3 trips to the Sierra's combined and I got to focus on fishing! (Thanks Nick!)

I'd highly recommend him. I've fished around the Sierras for a few years now but Nick gave me a few pointers (and one secret weapon) that really helps me with my reaction times on the double nymph rig.
